Portals are the rotation: a home portal jumps you to the mid flank, a mid portal drops you at your zone to cut off the incoming carrier.
How it plays
The portals replace the midfield: a home portal throws you to the mid flank, and a mid portal drops you at your zone just in time to meet an incoming carrier. Every rotation decision is really a portal decision, and both teams can read the map's tempo in who appears where.
How to win it
As carrier, count defenders before you run — if the mid portal is unaccounted for, assume it is about to produce one at your zone, and angle your last stretch away from its exit. As defence, save the drop for the moment the carrier commits; arriving early just shows them where you are. Off the flag, camp the enemy's exits during a run: a portal is a door that announces you.
