You move with WASD or the arrow keys, brake with Shift, boost with Space, and every key can be remapped from the in-match settings panel.

Both schemes work at once out of the box — use whichever you prefer, or mix them. Holding two directions at once is faster than a straight line, because of how the underlying momentum model handles diagonals. [Why this works →](/guides/movement)
Ability keys

| Shift | Handbrake, hold — bleeds your speed fast, the stop that plain momentum won't give you |
| J | Juke — instantly reverses your velocity, same speed, opposite direction |

Each ability runs on its own cooldown, shown on your ball's HUD ring. There's no health bar and no separate attack button — every fight in Fakeout is about positioning and momentum, not landing a hit.

Quickchat macros (map callouts, short canned lines) are also available through the comms panel in-match, so you can call a play without typing at all. Chat is moderated — see the [terms](/terms) for how that works.
How do you remap your keys?
Open the Customize key bindings button in the in-match HUD (bottom bar, keyboard icon). Pick a new key for any action; conflicts with another binding are flagged so you don't accidentally shadow movement. Your bindings are saved to your browser and persist across sessions.
